If you are a fan of first-person shooters and retro games, then you should take a closer look at Ravenfield.

Retro gaming is becoming popular once again, and many developers are now creating brand new titles with 16-bit graphics. Ravenfield has capitalized on that surge in popularity, and it is quickly becoming a cult classic among retro gaming fans. While the premise of Ravenfield is quite basic, the gameplay is incredibly engaging. This title should be added to your library if you have been looking for a retro twist on modern games.

In this single-player game, two armies battle against one another in a series of matches. While you are going to be the most important soldier in your army, you will have AI characters fighting alongside you. The primary purpose of each match is to gain control of five separate capture points throughout the map. To capture those areas, you will need to use a wide variety of vehicles and weapons. Each item has its own strengths and weaknesses, and you must do some experimenting in order to see which vehicles and weapons complement your style of play.

The artistic design of this game might seem bland at first, but that style should grow on you over time. Each combatant is nothing more than a simple block figure, and those characters explode into balls whenever they die. The ragdoll mechanics add an incredible amount of humor to the game, and you can easily spend hours watching the block figures fly through the air whenever they are splattered by a vehicle or hit by a bomb.

Each match is relatively short, and that makes this the perfect game for anyone who would like to relax for a few minutes at a time. As an added bonus, the AI within this game is extremely well done, and you won’t have to worry about omniscient enemies that know where you are no matter what strategies you use. Your allies are very well done as well, and they seem to understand exactly what you want them to do. Whenever you get near a vehicle or take cover, the friendlies will follow your lead.

Overall, Ravenfield is an impressive indie title that is sure to keep you entertained for quite some time. With its minimalistic graphics, this game can also be played on older devices that don't have powerful hardware.
